Chelisa van Jaarsveldt is a 14-year-old goal-driven girl with clear dreams.

Passionate for languages, mathematics, nature and ballet. In 2022, she earned the DUX academy award at her school. She has future dreams of being a scientist as well as a professional ballerina, and writing in her spare time.

She realised that she loved writing after she started writing her first book in Gr 5. Inspired by her kitten “Felix” who passed away, whose memories she wanted to capture forever. The book is also dedicated to Felix. It’s about a family going through challenges, and on a mission to achieve a big goal. The genre is Fiction-Adventure. She has already started writing a follow-up book.

Leowonderwoud 1 will be published on 9 December from 9h00 at Trixie’s CafĂ© in Pretoria.

It was not the plan to publish the book. She just wanted to write. She wrote her entire book with pen on paper. She didn’t know much about writing. She watched Youtube’s “How to write a good book.” and learned a lot. She went back many times and rewrote parts. It took her about 2 years to finish. She also read many more books by good authors – not only about she loves reading, but also about learning how to write. With confidence and excitement, she mentions that her 2nd book is going to be even better.

Due to the fact that the book had to be printed, the writing and scribbles had to be typed. Chelisa had to learn to type with patience. After a lot of research into writing and publishing books, everything started to fall into place nicely…

All the way to today.
